about

This tune originated as a poem written by poet and artist Priscilla Burlingham. We were both attending the WITR retreat at Star Island and we decided to put Priscilla's words to music. The music came pretty quickly as we went over the words while looking over the harbor from The Oceanic Hotel veranda. The music was recorded at Thundering Sky in South Berwick engineered by Chris Magruder. Harmony vocals and flute are provided by my gifted friend Cynthia Chatis. The words were prompted by songwriting leader Dan Blakeslee at the 2019 WITR retreat.

lyrics

Corners

Spiders gossip in the corner,
their spinnerets are down,
their web is torn
and so is mine,

subject to the wind
at one time.

I ride my corner
welcome wind,
welcome rain.

Their home a fragment
waving like a signal
to the sun.

And I guess they are
just resting
while in and out I stretch
my trapezoids of light.

Spiders gossip in the corner,
their spinnerets are down,
their web is dark,
the Moon in mine,

subject to the clouds
from time to time.

Well I guess they are
just watching
while Moon and I are riding
my trapezoids of light.

~ Priscilla Burlingham
