about

This is a tune originally from a song collection called "On a Mission". It was written for a fellow who lived next door to us in a mobile home park when we lived in Exeter, NH back in the early '90's. His name is Mr. May. It's a song about looking back at the end of one's life and asking some questions that sometimes can't be answered. It's also about keeping the long view of life, the important elements of life in your pocket so you don't lose them.

lyrics

Tired Man

Well, I've got a problem.
It's getting hard to handle.
I've got both ends burning
on a birthday candle.
I'm getting old and gray,
but that's the price you pay.

You got to pay your dues
when you're young and bright.
You've got to make your move,
and trust the time is right.
And if your dream comes true,
it just might rescue you.
When you're a tired man
When you're a tired man.

Well, I haven't given up yet,
No, I haven't lost my love
for my woman I
thank the starts above.
Only still I wonder
where my life has gone.
It's come and gone like a thunderstorm
only memories linger on.

I know what you're thinking.
Hey, now this guy's got it made.
He's all done working,
and I bet he sleeps in late.
Well, I'm sleepy, yes I am.
Cause I'm a tired man.

You see you work yourself to death
and save for a rainy day.
And when you finally catch your breath
your health has worn away.
Did I get what I deserved?
Questions left unanswered
When you're a tired man
When you're a tired man.

You see, I've got a problem.
It's getting hard to handle.
I've got both ends burning
on a birthday candle.
I'm getting old and gray,
but that's the price you pay.
